Khalil Abdar-Rashid

B.S., CADC, C.S.P.S., CPRS

As a child Khalil was aware of the destruction that alcohol and drugs were having on his family and community. He grew up in a family and community devastated by alcohol and drug use. These things seemed normal. It wasn’t until his own experience with alcohol, drugs, and treatment that he realized that these things weren’t normal, and he learned the true impact they were having on his family and community. As a result, Khalil has dedicated the last twenty years of his life finding ways to be a part of the solution. In treatment he discovered his purpose and passion and has dedicated his life to its pursuit and fulfillment.

Khalil graduated college with a degree in Psychology and became a certified Peer Recovery Specialist in 2018 and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor in 2019. Khalil has published several books: ‘Black Boy Lost’, ‘Faith’s Journey’, and most recently ‘Suffering in Silence’. He started a non-profit “Missed Opts.” in 2021 and is currently employed by RI International a Recovery Response Center. He is the Team Leader for START, an outpatient program that provides services and support to those struggling with substance challenges.

Khalil is married and has two sons and three grandchildren. He enjoys long walks in the park, is a diehard Forty-Niners fan, and loves basketball.
