Reducing Recidivism

We strive to put an end to recurring acts of violence.
With this goal in mind, we provide evidence-based programs in three correctional facilities designed to lower the rate of repeat offenses among offenders.

Our Program is an Opportunity

The Impact of Crime on Victims Program

This program contributes to lowering the probability of violent offenders committing further crimes, consequently diminishing the count of crime victims in our state. It's an evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy initiative that focuses on instilling empathy in offenders and motivating them to acknowledge their actions' responsibility. Annually, we are impacting as many as 56 residents within each institution.

The Courage to Change Program

This program targets the "Big Six" criminogenic needs of offenders, which encompass Antisocial Values, Criminal Personality, Low Self-Control, Criminal Peers, Dysfunctional Family Ties, and Substance Use. By integrating this approach with the Impact of Crime, we are inspiring offenders to initiate transformation and providing them with the guidance to bring about positive changes in these specific areas.

These 24-week training courses, led by senior Victims' Voices Heard facilitators, are currently being conducted in 2 correctional facilities in Delaware; Sussex Correctional Institution and James T Vaughn Correctional Center. The evaluation done on our programs received national attention and is included on the website of National Institute of Corrections!
